DELTA QUEEN CRUISES ARKANSAS RIVER IN 1994 The Delta Queen Steamboat Company Dept. PY94 30 Robin Street Wharf New Orleans, LA 70130-1890 1-800-543-1949 The election of President Bill Clinton has probably done more for Arkansas tourism that any other single event. And now another momentous occurrence will be generating additional interest in "The Natural State." On April 13 a gala celebration was held at the Museum of American Folk Art in New York City to inaugurate the 1994 itineraries of the DELTA QUEEN, one of the last American steam-powered paddlewheelers. Attenders enjoyed a true taste of Arkansas music and crafts, and food was provided by Sylvia's Restaurant in Harlem, noted for rendering some of the best down-home cooking that can be found anywhere. Sponsored by The Delta Queen Steamboat Company and the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, plans for four cruises to the Arkansas River Valley were announced. The DELTA QUEEN, a National Historic Landmark, will begin its first journey with a seven- night cruise from Memphis to Little Rock on July 23 and follow up with a return trip on July 30. Following the same course, additional trips are scheduled for September 9 and 16. The DELTA QUEEN has hosted several celebrities, including former President Jimmy Carter, during its prominent lifetime. And it is no wonder! A true return to old- fashioned elegance, all of the vessel's fixtures are original: the only Siamese bark floor aboard a steamboat, rich hardwood paneling, gleaming brass, stained and diamond-cut windows and the breath-taking Grand Staircase topped by an elegant Tiffany crystal chandelier. Combine all that with Southern hospitality, frontier ingenuity, and the culture and crafts of the Ozark Mountains, and you are going to have the time of your life! Cruises start as low as $990 per person (double occupancy) for a seven- night adventure. Some of the fascinating places you will visit along the Arkansas River are Pine Bluff, believed by some to be the place where the Civil War started and home of the Arkansas Railway Museum; Little Rock, where Bill and Hillary Clinton lived and the site of Granny's Attic--try on corsets, formal wear, and hoop skirts from days gone by; Petit Jean Mountain, a beautiful state park with waterfalls and hidden forest paths and where President Clinton's 1967 Mustang convertible now resides at the Museum of Automobiles; and Fort Smith, a genuine frontier outpost.
