HERSHEY RESORTS 300 Park Boulevard Hersey, PA 17033 (800) 533-3131 In the late 1800's Milton S. Hershey created his chocolate empire in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, now known to most of us as HERSHEY, PA. Flourishing today, the HERSHEY RESORTS have become a favorite American family vacation center. And no wonder! Included in the HERSHEY RESORTS network are the 33-acre HERSHEY Lodge and Convention Center, which features recreational activities and entertainment ventures, as well as a range of meeting rooms; the HERSHEY Country Club, a golfer's dream; HERSHEYPARK, a family theme and entertainment enterprise; the North American Wildlife Park ZooAmerica; the HERSHEY'S CHOCOLATE WORLD Visitors Center; the Milton S. Hershey School, which provides opportunities for 1200 "distressed" students; the HERSHEY Museum; and THE HERSHEY HOTEL, an elegant 60-year-old luxury retreat. That is an impressive empire and, best of all, chocolate can be found everywhere. But, let's face it, man and woman cannot live on chocolate alone (no matter how tempting the idea). To introduce Christian Schmidt, the new Executive Chef at THE HOTEL HERSHEY, a luncheon was held at The James Beard Foundation in New York City on December 8. Showcasing the culinary skills of Chef Schmidt, guests dined on Exotic Lobster Salad with Mango Vanilla Bean Dressing, Roasted Elk Loin on Raisin Squash Cake, and a magnificent dessert of Ricotta Cheese Chocolate Trifle. The meal was accompanied by Australian wines. In addition to being a taste extravaganza, Chef Schmidt's exquisite presentations were a visual feast. It is quite obvious that this is a gentleman who enjoys creating gastromonic wonders. You can find Chef Schmidt at the Circular Dining Room at THE HOTEL HERSHEY. This charming, comfortable hotel is a recent recipient of the AAA Four Diamond rating, one of the most prestigious in the industry. Boasting 241 rooms, including 26 suites and a guesthouse, a $1 million renovation program has just been completed to preserve and update the reflection of a 19th century Mediterranean palace. Research has determined that most people visit the hotel for "peace of mind" and the gracious, accommodating service. Open year round, you can celebrate the holidays in style at the new HERSHEYPARK CHRISTMAS CANDYLAND. Or wait for the summer and be one of the first to ride TIDAL FORCE, the world's tallest splashdown ride. It opens in May of 1994 and promises a 95-foot drop! Good food, friendly folks, a variety of entertainment and education, and chocolate everywhere you go--HERSHEY, PA., could be your dream vacation! - Laurie Lawson-
