Along the New Jersey coast, equal distance
from New York City and Philadelphia, you will
find the Victorian seaside town of OCEAN
GROVE.  An oasis from the maddening crowds
and the hustle and bustle of everyday life,
this resort defines the word "quaint" with
its picturesque gingerbread houses, beautiful
tree-lined streets, and charming inns and
shops.  The beaches are sparkling clean, the
boardwalk is commercial-free, and the

spiritual and lay leaders in 1869 as a
gathering place for religious fellowship,
they will be celebrating their 125th
anniversary.  In addition to the regular arts
and crafts shows, flea markets, and
historically-themed parades, there will be
many celebration activities, such as special
concerts, fireworks, historical slide
presentations, and the opening of a 100-year-
old time capsule.  Summer youth programs,
Sunday worship services, classical and gospel
concerts, and camp meeting week will augment
all the cultural events scheduled this year.

And 1994 marks another extraordinary
occasion--the 100th anniversary of The Great
Auditorium.  This magnificent building,
totally constructed of wood, has 262 doors
and windows and is close to the size of a
football field.  Host to seven U.S.
presidents, 28 New Jersey governors, and a
multitude of celebrities, some of the
entertainers scheduled for this summer
include Judy Collins, Eddie Rabbit, the Ink
Spots, Jerry Vale, and the New Jersey
Symphony Orchestra.

OCEAN GROVE boasts several prominent sites. 
You can visit Beersheba Well (1870), Bishop
Janes Tabernacle (1877), Thornley Chapel
(1889), and the Centennial Cottage (1874),
all carefully preserved to reflect the
elegant life of another era.  One of the most
popular traditions is Tent Life.  You will
see 114 tent structures where families come
every summer to enjoy this resort. 
Unfortunately, you will not be able to
experience tent life because there is a long
waiting list.  But there are plenty of places
to stay in OCEAN GROVE; bed & breakfasts,
graceful inns, lovely cottages, and hotels
are waiting to accommodate you and your
family.

Just by visiting one little haven in New
Jersey, you could make this the vacation of a
lifetime.  Peace and tranquility, historical
and cultural events, and an entry into
